Watford began the season in electric fashion under new boss Marco Silva following his arrival from Hull City, but in recent week’s the Portuguese boss’ side have failed to replicate their early season form.
One win in their past nine league games has seen the Hornets fall away from the European places, and Silva will be keen to address the slide this month by utilising the winter transfer market. Fans here in The Transfer Tavern share the same sentiment as their popular boss, and told our landlord between games of pool that they felt their side required a much-needed boost if they were to continue to push for a top-half finish. Keen to see a new striker this month, with the future of Troy Deeney up in the air having been linked with a move to West Brom, fans asked our landlord if he could recommend Europe’s next big thing, and our landlord couldn’t help but discuss the form of Angers striker, Karl Toko Ekambi.
The 25-year-old has been in fantastic form in the French top-flight this term, scoring an impressive nine goals and adding a further three assists as the minnows continue to punch above their weight in the European nation. A fully-fledged Cameroonian international with seventeen senior caps, French-born Ekambi looks ready to make the step up to the higher level, and Watford could be the club from which his Premier League dream is achieved. Big, powerful and pacy, the player possesses all of the required attributes to succeed in English football, and could prove to be a real gem at Vicarage Road.
Ekambi should be available for a reasonable fee given his current side’s modest financial means, so Silva could definitely consider taking a punt on the player this month.
