The Tottenham Hotspur fans have been waxing lyrical about the performances of Mousa Dembele for the majority of the season so far, so it’s no wonder they are deeply concerned by reports which link him with a move away from the club this summer.
Tottenham’s Belgian midfield general has been an integral part of the club’s success this season in the Premier League, as his ability to dictate proceedings from the centre of the pitch has consistently enabled Spurs to dominate possession. Dembele’s drop of the should and quick shimmy has become something of a trademark for a player who glides across the pitch with a grace that is almost impossible to teach.
His unique presence in midfield would by almost impossible to replace, but Pochettino might be forced to embark on that impossible task this summer, as The Daily Mirror believe that the club are willing to listen to reasonable offers for his services this summer.
The fact that Dembele is 30-years-old is certainly a factor which will influence Tottenham’s decision, but despite his age, the club should refuse to sell one of their most important player’s this summer even if a generous offer arrives for his services.
However, the club should entertain offers for Moussa Sissoko should any be forthcoming during the summer transfer window as the standard of his performances this season have fallen below the level which is required for the club to progress next season.
Sissoko has made 29 appearances in the Premier League this season and, so far he has managed to score just 1 goal and provide 1 assist which represents an abysmal record for a player who supposedly possesses a forward-thinking mindset in midfield.
If Tottenham want to challenge for the title next season and bridge the gulf in class between themselves and Manchester City, they will need to keep hold of their top players, such as Dembele and, replace the dead weights, such as Sissoko.
Although Dembele is 30-years-old, his performances this season suggest he is well within his prime, so Pochettino would be foolish to allow him to leave the club this summer.
