Forget Faria: Arsenal should appoint this former Mourinho disciple instead this summer

Our Arsenal fans here in the Transfer Tavern are reacting to the shock new link to the Arsenal job next season, none other than Arsene Wenger’s Premier League rival over the years – Jose Mourinho’s assistant – Rui Faria.

The Gunners are undoubtedly going to be linked with every out of work or unhappy manager in and around Europe over the next few months, as the race to replace Wenger rumbles on. Our regulars feel that the board should be bold, decisive and quick in their appointment to stop the rumour mill going into overdrive.

The shocking link to the job is certainly Mourinho’s long-term assistant Faria, a man that has won everything with the Portuguese and been one of the main reasons for his success over the years.

However, the bar staff feel there are better, more experienced options out there for the job, which is going to be tough following in Wenger’s 22-year footsteps. What they don’t want to happen is for it to go the same way as United, when they tried replacing Sir Alex Ferguson with David Moyes.

In the bar, the talk is of other Mourinho’s disciples in the game and, which one would be a better fit for the Emirates outfit…

The Celtic man is a firm favourite in the Tavern for the Arsenal job, the way he got Suarez and Liverpool ticking in that infamous season and, if you look previous to that the work he did at Swansea, was brilliant and really got them playing attractive and attacking football – something surely all the Gunners in the bar would like to see.

Many say it’s easy in the Scottish League to win the title year after year, however, he has to get the players playing and up for every game, with every team looking to Celtic as their cup final game.

The unbeaten record shouldn’t be underestimated either!
