The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern were left feeling frustrated last season as their side continued to fail to dominate in the attack.
Between Eden Hazard, Pedro, Willian and Alvaro Morata, the Blues didn’t generate enough magic, and whilst every player was at fault, it was the form of the first player – Hazard – that left fans particularly frustrated. He’s an individual that has as much talent as the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, but all too often he’s unable to take it upon himself to take the Blues over the line.
This summer, then, with the Belgian yet to sign a new deal, perhaps it might be time for him to move on – and perhaps it’s time for Chelsea to trade him in for a newer model.
One player that our landlord thinks would be perfect is Ligue 1 attacker Malcom.
Currently playing for Bordeaux, Malcom has been one of France’s brightest talents this season, with the Brazilian taking the league by storm. An attacking midfielder by trade, like Hazard, Malcom is able to play across the attack to devastating effect. Relying on his brilliant pace, dribbling and technique to drive past players, pass around them, or, indeed, run right at them – he’s often impossible to stop.
He was the star of the show at Bordeaux last season, picking up a very stellar 12 goals and 7 assists, which is a testament to his quality, and that indicates that he’s ready to make a step upwards.
A move to Chelsea would, undoubtedly, be a huge step – but he looks ready to make it. A move to replace Hazard could be the making of him.
