West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern are excited about their future under Manuel Pellegrini – our punters are hopeful they can challenge for European qualification next season.
The Chilean was announced as the new Hammers boss following the departure of David Moyes. The Scot took over from Slaven Bilic and steered the club to safety but was not seen as the right man to take the club forward. Pellegrini’s last role oversaw Hebei China Fortune but now returns to England to rebuild the Hammers.
He lifted the Premier League with Manchester City in 2014 and broke the record for most goals scored in a Premier League season in the process. To implement his attacking style of play at the London Stadium, he must be backed in the transfer market.
Pellegrini implemented a tall and small striker combination perfectly during his time with the Citizens. Sergio Aguero was utilised alongside either Edin Dzeko or Alvaro Negredo with the trio bagging a combined 77 goals over the course of the season. To do the same at West Ham, he needs a target man alongside Javier Hernandez.
The perfect man for the job could be Crystal Palace striker – Christian Benteke. After being left out of Belgium’s World Cup squad, the Eagles are now willing to listen to offers for their record-signing following a dismal season at Selhurst Park. He netted just three goals in the Premier League but is valued at £19.8m by Transfermarkt.
A change of scenery could be just what Benteke needs to rediscover the form that made him one of the most feared forwards in the division. Alongside Hernandez, West Ham could have the strikeforce to fire them back into Europe.
