West Ham United boss David Moyes has been tasked with overseeing the club’s rise up the table over the course of the second half of the season, with the Hammers hierarchy desperately disappointed to see the East Londoners dragged into a relegation battle.
Fans here in The Transfer Tavern are not overly-confident in their side’s ability to break into the top half, but remain optimistic that they will remain a Premier League outfit next season. Regulars in our humble establishment, our landlord has lost count of the number of times he has argued long into the night about all things West Ham, and a further one was added to the tally as Hammers fans bent the eye off of our boss over several pints. Addressing the club’s striking crisis was the top topic, and with Javier Hernandez and Diafra Sakho looking likely to leave, fans are keen to see funds acquired from the pair’s sale reinvested back into the squad.
Many names were mentioned, but the majority settled on Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson as a player they would love to see lead the line at the London Stadium. The Cherries striker had proven a revelation following his signing from Coventry City, but his progress was halted by a cruel knee injury that kept him out of the game for almost a year. With thirty-six goals in ninety league appearances, and five in just nine starts this season, Wilson is an obvious goal scorer, and Moyes simply must consider a swoop for the 25-year-old. Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe will fight nail and tooth to keep his star man at The Vitality Stadium, but if the Hammers can put together an enticing financial package, the Cherries small stature compared to many of their league rivals may force them to sell.
Secure this deal, and West Ham could have their first choice man for at least the next six years.
