Manchester City continue to be linked with some big-name midfielders having seen primary target Jorginho reject a move to the Etihad.

Real Madrid's Mateo Kovacic, Juventus' Miralem Pjanic and Bayern Munich's Thiago are all said to be players that Manchester City are currently monitoring.

Goal, however, reports the Premier League champions are unlikely to move for either player in this moment of time because of their very high valuations.

Sooner or later, though, you can expect manager Pep Guardiola to spend big on a new midfielder with Fernandinho not getting any younger.

And when the Spaniard does, alongside the likes of Kovacic, Pjanic and Thiago, he should also consider Paris Saint-Germain's Marco Verratti.

£63m-rated (via Transfermarkt) Verratti is a complete midfielder who can play in various midfield roles.

The Italy international is a good passer, able to dictate play from deep and is not afraid to get stuck in and make strong tackles.

Verratti would be the perfect defensive midfielder for Guardiola.

At PSG, the 25-year-old has stagnated a bit, but he still has the potential to become world-class in his position.

Under a coach like Guardiola, Verratti could finally progress to that next level and join the current midfield elites -- such as Luka Modric and Toni Kroos  --  of world football.

By no means will it be an easy deal to pull off -- for various reasons -- but if Guardiola does eventually decide to splash out on a new midfielder, then Verratti should be at the top of his list.
