Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern can finally smile after Marco Silva was officially announced as their new manager following the sacking of Sam Allardyce.
The former England manager took over from Ronald Koeman in November to steady the ship. He steered the club away from the relegation zone but his style of play ultimately cost him his job following various fan protests. Initially, Everton’s first target, former Watford boss Silva will now take the reins.
Silva has a massive task on his hands to revamp the Everton squad and put them back into the hunt for European football. Recent reports have linked the Blues with PSV winger, Hirving Lozano, following the appointment of Marcel Brands as their new director of football. Instead of signing Lozano, they should look to give Ademola Lookman a senior role in the squad.
Valued at £6.3m by Transfermarkt, the Englishman spent the last half of the season on loan with RB Leipzig after finding playing time hard to come by under Allardyce. He impressed during his time in the Bundesliga, scoring five and assisting four in just 11 appearances – highlighting his evident talent. Now he will return to Everton where he must be played more often.
Under Silva, Lookman would be a huge player for the Toffees. He is young and supremely talented and will not hesitate to move elsewhere if he isn’t getting played. Everton must secure the future of one of their most promising players before a rival takes advantage.
