Forget Lucas Moura: Levy should bring this £25.2m-rated winger to Tottenham this month

The resident Lilywhites have been downbeat in the Transfer Tavern since their lacklustre performance away at Southampton last weekend.

Tottenham’s aspirations of finishing in the top-four this season took another brutal blow at Saint Mary’s Stadium on Sunday after they drew 1-1 with the relegation-threatened club. The result has left Mauricio Pochettino’s side just two points adrift of 4th placed Liverpool due to The Reds shock defeat away at Swansea on Monday evening, but the Spurs faithful remain concerned that they will fail to qualify for the Champions League this season if they fail to bring new talent to the club this month.

Daniel Levy has yet to splash the cash this month, but that could be all set to change in the near future, as reports from Sky Sports claim Tottenham are interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain outcast Lucas Moura to North-London this month.

So far this season, the Brazilian winger has only made 6 appearances in all competitions, however, those appearances accumulate to just 79 minutes of football. This statistic alone should be deterring the Tottenham hierarchy from making an approach for his services, even if his lack of game time can be explained by the intensity of competition at PSG.

Tottenham should instead focus their interest on a winger who has proven their ability to compete at the highest level this season, and Bayer Leverkusen’s 20-year-old wonderkid Leon Bailey more than fits the bill.

Spurs are crying out for a wide player to run at the opponent with decisive pace and trickery, as only Heung-Min Son currently offers that in Tottenham white. However, this would all change with the purchase of Bailey who has set the Bundesliga on fire with his performances this season.

In his 16 Bundesliga appearances, Bailey has scored 7 goals and provided 5 assists, and considering he is just 20-years-old, the Jamaican international certainly looks to be a huge prospect for the future.

The signing of Lucas Moura looks risky based on his lack of playing time this season, so Tottenham should shift their interest towards one of Europe’s most promising talents if they wish to boost their Champions League aspirations this season.
