Forget Mahrez: Liverpool should move for £17.67m-rated teammate to replace Philippe Coutinho

Selling Philippe Coutinho in a near £150 million arrangement with Barcelona last week will have come to a blow to many Liverpool fans, but the more pragmatic of the bunch will look to the deal struck with the Catalan giants as an excellent piece of business.

Signed from Inter Milan for less than £10 million, the club created a huge profit on the 25-year-old Brazilian, and manager Jurgen Klopp will now be handed a transfer war chest as he attempts to turn Liverpool into contenders in both England and on the continent. Liverpool fans here in The Transfer Tavern were sad to see the popular playmaker leave, but revealed their excitement to our landlord over exactly how the money will be spent to reinvigorate the squad. Fans told are landlord over the bar that they had faith in Klopp to spend well, and do not expect a repeat of the mass failures endured when former boss Brendan Rodgers was tasked with utilising the funds acquired from the sale of Luis Suarez.

A number of new faces are required at Anfield if Liverpool are to become serious contenders, and replacing Coutinho could be one of the first ports of call for their German manager. Fans expressed desires to see their side go out and land a world-class talent, but with such players generally available on the open market, our landlord suggested a move for a more realistic target in Porto’s, Yacine Brahimi. The 27-year-old French-born Algerian international has proven a sensation since signing for the Portuguese giants in 2014, scoring at a rate of a goal every four games from a similar role as Coutinho. The player could be ready to finally make the move to a top European league, and Liverpool could offer him the opportunity to shine.

With Riyad Mahrez linked with a move to Anfield of late, his international teammate rated at £17.67m on Transfermarkt could be a more astute addition.

In his peak years, Brahimi looks to be a real star, and his ability on the ball and eye for a pass makes him the perfect addition to Klopp’s midfield. Five goals and six assists in the Portuguese domestic league this season has elevated the player as one of the most consistent in the division, and Klopp should go all out to ensure he is a Liverpool player by February 1st.

Liverpool fans, does Brahimi sound the part? Let us know!
