Forget Man City: Chelsea should steal a march on their PL rivals and move for 24-goal attacker

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are getting extremely jealous of reports linking Man City with a move for Alexis Sanchez…

The Chilean could be on his way to Manchester in a £20 million move in January, and whilst his link with Guardiola is likely to have an impact, the Chelsea fans in the pub can’t help but think that he would be better off at Chelsea. Indeed, he thinks that the Blues should go all in for the Chilean, and they have given a few reasons as to why.

The most obvious reason is his quality. Having bagged 24 goals last season, Sanchez eclipsed every player in the Chelsea squad in that regard, with Eden Hazard – arguably the Premier League’s most similar player to Sanchez – not even getting close to his total. That’s not to say that Hazard is bad – to the contrary – but if you were to combine the two attackers, it could be the perfect concoction of attacking brilliance.  With powerful attacking, lethal goalscoring and a high work-rate, Sanchez would be perfect for Antonio Conte’s Chelsea.

He would also be able to walk into the Blues’ first team quite easily. Willian has been poor this season, whilst Pedro is already 30-years-old, meaning that Sanchez could be a relatively long-term solution for the Blues. At 28-years-old, Chelsea could get several years out of him at the highest level, and whilst Pedro has slowed down a touch this season – Sanchez only appears to be getting better and better.

Chelsea aren’t exactly blessed with attacking depth, so there’s no doubt that he would walk into the side.

For Chelsea, beyond his quality on the field, there is one big reason why they should move for him. Financially, it’s definitely a deal that makes sense. Transfer Markt rate him at £58.5 million, but given that his contract expires next summer, he may be available for a cut-price fee. Not to mention the fact that Chelsea are likely to invest in their attack over the coming months, as they look to add more depth, and so he’d be a perfect fit.

There’s no real downside to Chelsea moving for the Chilean. It might be a task to convince him to join, though.
