Liverpool FC may have sold star man Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona in the past few days in a deal valued close to £150 million, but fans of the famous football club are optimistic of their side’s future.
With money in manager Jurgen Klopp’s transfer kitty beginning to mount, a splurge is surely very close, but the German will learn from the mistakes of his predecessors and ensure that the money is spent in the right way to improve the squad at Anfield. Rumours have flown around The Transfer Tavern in recent days as to who could replace Coutinho, with fans always quick to reveal their phones to our landlord to quote the latest murmurings on Twitter. Our landlord sneaked a few minutes away from the bar to sit down for a chat with fans, and couldn’t help but suggest the contentious notion that Klopp should target a striker to replace the Brazilian.
His reasoning was that Roberto Firmino could drop behind a new frontman, with the former Hoffenheim man able to score goals from any position on the field. Should Liverpool find a 30-goal a season man then they will be strong favourites to challenge for the title, and our landlord suggested giving Lazio striker Ciro Immobile serious consideration. The 27-year-old’s form this season has been nothing short of phenomenal, with twenty goals and seven assists already to his name at the halfway stage of the Serie A season. The Italian international is on course to play a role in fifty league goals this campaign, monster stats for a side who have failed to challenge for the title in recent years.
Question marks may hang over the player’s ability to adapt to a foreign league having struggled at Borussia Dortmund, but with the success of Mo Salah resonating in the minds of fans following his summer move from Roma, Klopp could be forgiven for handing Immobile the chance to shine in the Premier League this month.
Liverpool fans, would you like to see Immobile at Anfield this month? Let us know!
