The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern seem to have accepted that they will lose Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez before next season. The pair are out of contract at the end of this season and both are refusing to sign a new deal. Sanchez could go in this window – with Manchester United circling – while Ozil is likely to leave in the summer on a free transfer.
Losing such vital players at the same time would be a disaster for Arsenal and a contingency plan must be put into place. Arsene Wenger needs to be weighing up all his options right now and there are plenty of talented attacking midfielders he could make a move for, including Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
But Wenger should make a move for Lyon star Nabil Fekir. The versatile attacking midfielder is also capable of playing up front and despite his diminutive frame, he is an exceptional footballer. The 10-cap France international is one of the best players in Ligue 1 and Wenger should use his French links to snap him up either this month or in the summer.
The 24-year-old already has well over 100 senior appearances for Lyon’s first team under his belt, making him experienced as well as still being quite young. If Arsenal move to sign him now, they could see him star in the Arsenal team for the next several years.
With 17 goals in 24 appearances already this season, Fekir is outshining a number of top stars in Ligue 1 and Arsenal must look at bringing him in this month.
