A few years ago, Marcus Rashford has everyone in the Transfer Tavern talking. He emerged onto the scene at Man Utd under Louis van Gaal, and he was impressive.
However, it’s fair to say that over the last year or so, he has slowed down. Jose Mourinho, though a regular under the manager, has slowed Rashford’s progression into the first team – with the Englishman making more league substitute appearances than first-team appearances last term.
Mourinho, for some reason, doesn’t appear to view him as overly crucial to his plans at present, and so perhaps bringing in a replacement could be on his agenda this summer.
It would be a shame for Rashford to leave, but 20-year-old Leon Bailey of Bayer Leverkusen has all the qualities that it would take to succeed him.
Like Rashford, Bailey is a player that has his best years firmly ahead of him, but by no means is he an average player at present. He’s been one of the most impressive youngsters in the Bundesliga over the last year or so, and he picked up a decent tally of 9 goals and 6 assists in the league last season.
Not to mention, another three goals in the German Cup indicates that he’s also the man for a big occasion.
In terms of what he can do, Bailey’s best attribute is undoubtedly his pace. He’s lightning fast, and that makes him an incredible threat going forward. Furthermore, he’s also a fantastic dribbler and passer, and he also has great technique. When combined, this trio of skills – combined with his pace – make him deadly in the attack. This is reflected by the aforementioned goal tally.
Rashford’s homegrown status means that his transfer value would be huge in the Premier League, and though, clearly, it would hurt the club and fans alike to lose him – particularly to a rival – perhaps swapping him out for Bailey makes sense.
