Everton wrapped up the signing of Cenk Tosun earlier this month and the Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern were delighted with this news. The Toffees are still searching for a replacement for Romelu Lukaku, who joined Manchester United in the summer, and pre-season recruit Sandro Ramirez has been a major disappointment.
Tosun could be the man to turn things around at Everton and start firing goals. But Sam Allardyce is not hedging his bets when it comes to new strikers and he has been targeting another forward. According to The Sun, West Ham United’s Diafra Sakho – who Allardyce brought to England – and Celtic youngster Moussa Dembele are both on Everton’s wishlist this January as they continue to splash the Lukaku and Ross Barkley cash.
But Allardyce should ignore these two options and instead opt for one of Europe’s most in-demand young forwards. Kasper Dolberg, of Ajax, would be an ideal signing for Everton. The youngster has lit up the Eredivisie with his goal scoring displays and attracted attention from the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid in the past.
The 20-year-old (rated at 12.6m on Transfermarkt) scored 23 goals in 47 games for Ajax last season despite being a teenager. And while his performances in front of goal have been less impressive this term (seven in 22), Dolberg still remains one of the best prospects in European football.
The Denmark international, who has already scored at senior level, would be perfect for Everton. He would initially be seen as a back up to Cenk Tosun but he would still be getting game time. And within the next year or two, Dolberg would surely be good enough to start week in, week out in the Premier League if he continues to improve as he has been doing.
