The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for Arsene Wenger to properly replace Alexis Sanchez. Henrikh Mkhitaryan moved to the Emirates in exchange for the Chilean, and whilst he will provide much of what Sanchez used to bring to the table, there is still a hope amongst our resident Gunners that further investment will be forthcoming. Not to mention, at 29-years-old, Mkhitaryan is hardly the long-term solution that Wenger will likely be seeking.
When sourcing a replacement, then, a few key categories need to be ticked off. They need to be young, quick, technical and a threat in front of goal. That’s a tough set of traits to fall under – but one player that could be perfect is Leon Bailey.
Currently playing for Bayer Leverkusen, Bailey has emerged as quite the player this season. Though he had previously been a bit-part player, the attacker has really come of age this term. Though inexperienced, he has taken the league by the horns so far – and his stats certainly reflect that. He has already bagged 7 goals alongside 5 assists – and given that he has only started 12 games, that’s a pretty remarkable record.
Known for his electric pace, Bailey is a real threat going down the flanks – impressing with his fantastic range of passing and dribbling. He’s also great from set pieces, offering Arsenal another fantastic trait that can be utilised.
With an average rating of 7.6 this season, according to WhoScored.com, there aren’t many in Europe that are impressing more than Bailey.
Arsenal have been touted as having an interest in Bailey over the last week, and so there is certainly a chance that they could follow up on that apparent fondness. Whether they’re able to land him, though, remains to be seen.
