The Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern are still in the dark over the future of defender Luke Shaw.
It seems that Jose Mourinho keeps changing his mind about the young left-back. For large periods of time he is frozen out of the first team and not handed any opportunities but sometimes he is deemed useful.
Either way, he may look for a route out of Old Trafford this January or in the summer in order to reignite his stalling career. After showing tremendous potential as a teenager at Southampton, the 22-year-old now needs to be playing week in, week out to develop his game.
If Shaw, who is currently rated at £13.5m on Transfermarkt, is sold, Manchester United will need to scour the market for improvements at left back. Ashley Young, a converted winger, appears to be Mourinho’s first choice in that department and, despite his upturn in form, this could definitely do with upgrading.
If he is looking to bring in a new left-back this January, Mourinho should look no further than Celtic youngster Kieran Tierney. The 20-year-old is one of the hottest properties in the Scottish game after establishing himself as a regular with the Bhoys.
While Tierney is improving each week with regular time at Celtic, there will come a point in his career where he needs to leave Parkhead to further his own game. This can be achieved at Manchester United, where he will be playing for a massive club with lots of history and one which is competing for silverware on a domestic and European level.
Tierney is one of the best young defenders in the game right now and Man United should act quickly to wrap this deal up if Mourinho lets Shaw leave.
