Forget Willian: 84% of Man Utd fans would rather see homegrown teenager in the first team

It’s been a tough season for the Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern. A defeat in the FA Cup final has meant that the season has ended on a sour note, and that’s frustrating for Jose Mourinho.

Clearly, the Portuguese has a lot of hard work on his hands this summer as he looks to turn his team into Premier League winners.

Transfers are, naturally, the best way of doing this, and one player that the Red Devils have been linked by Sky Sports with is Chelsea winger Willian. The Brazilian doesn’t seem to be a big part of Antonio Conte’s plans, and Mourinho seemingly wants to capitalise.

However, it doesn’t appear as though fans are particularly invested in the idea of a move.

We recently polled Man Utd fans on the prospect of their club making a move or whether Mourinho should instead turn to academy product Angel Gomes. Gomes has been knocking on the door of the first team for a while, and he certainly deserves a chance.

The Man Utd fans seem to agree, with supporters overwhelmingly in favour of the teenager. 84% of fans polled would rather see him in the first team than Willian, and that’s a testament to the attitude of fans towards this deal.

Willian is, of course, almost 30 – and so it’s likely that fans have looked to the future when considering this decision, not to mention the fact that Willian has hardly been a star at Chelsea over the years.

Who Mourinho will go for, though, remains to be seen.
