It has been a very long few weeks for the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern. Not too long ago they were celebrating their Premier League title win with a few glasses of champagne, but the Blues are onto the stronger stuff this season as they struggle through a poor spell in the English top flight. Another loss came at the hands of Crystal Palace at the weekend, and it has left the London-based outfit in a tough spot.
Beyond the result, though, the major worry for Chelsea after the game was regarding Victor Moses. The Nigerian pulled up during the clash, and on Monday the Telegraph reported that he could be out until November.
Clearly, then, ahead of Chelsea’s game with Roma, the Blues have a major concern in his role. Moses won’t be available, and so Antonio Conte will have to replace him. Davide Zappacosta would be the obvious choice, but our landlord has thrown another shout out there: Antonio Rudiger. Naturally more of a central player, Rudiger played very frequently towards the end of last season as a right-back, and so he’s certainly comfortable in the role.
Let’s not forget, Rudiger was signed from Roma, and so nobody in the Chelsea squad knows the team as well as him. What better way to exploit that than being involved both in the defence and the attack?
He may not feature in a central position on the night, given the choice that Antonio Conte has in that position, and so this may be his best chance of playing in the game. Cesar Azpilicueta is best utilised in the middle, whilst Zappacosta hasn’t exactly set the world alight thus far. Rudiger, then, might just be the best option? Do you agree?
