There are interesting reports in the Football Transfer Tavern for Arsenal fans this morning as one of their former player rules out a return to the club.
Jamie Sanderson from Metro tells punters that Barcelona midfielder Alex Song has denied reports that he could return to the Emirates Stadium in the upcoming January transfer window.
The Cameroonian international left the Gunners for the La Liga champions in 2012 but his time at the Camp Nou has been varied as he struggles to gain a regular first team berth with the Spanish outfit.
This has seen him linked with a possible return to Arsene Wenger’s team but the 26-year-old has maintained that he is happy with Barca and won’t be leaving in the near future.
He said: “I am happy at Barcelona.
“I play in one of the best leagues in the world, everybody treats me very well, and there are some of the best players in the world here.
“You don’t know what might happen in the future, but I still have a few years left on my contract here.”
While Song has no plans to return to Arsenal, he admits that he follows his old club and wants them to succeed. The Cameroon midfielder says he is hopeful they can win trophies this season.
“I still watch every Arsenal game,” he continued.
“I hope they are successful this season and can win something.”
