The West Bromwich Albion fans in the Football Transfer Tavern will not be too sad to see the back of former French international Nicolas Anelka.
The 35-year-old was banned from Premier League football after performing a quenelle gesture as a match celebration away at West Ham United last season.
Anelka was released by the Baggies almost instantly with the clubs’ hierarchy deeming his actions unacceptable.
But it seems the striker, who also had spells with Arsenal, Real Madrid Chelsea and will be back playing football again as early as next month.
The Daily Mail are reporting that the veteran has agreed a deal to join Mumbai City – a club managed by former Sunderland manager Peter Reid.
The Indian Super League has attracted some big names in recent weeks with the likes of Robert Pires, Freddie Ljungberg, Alessandro Del-Piero and David Trezeguet also making the move.
Anelka said on Twitter: “I’m pleased to join Mumbai City FC & very exciting in joining Indian Super League.
“Talented international players & top Indian talent will make matches thrilling affairs and I look forward to using my ability to do well for my team in the matches we will play.”
