While all eyes in the Football Transfer Tavern are firmly fixed on Jose Mourinho’s first press conference after his second coming as Chelsea manager it seems that one player who might be leaving the club before the Jose revolution can take effect is misfit striker Fernando Torres who has again been linked with a move to Napoli to join up with Rafael Benitez.
The Express suggests that a move for the £50 million signed striker would see Edinson Cavani moving in the opposite direction as Mourinho looks to make his mark on the Chelsea team he inherited from interim manager Benitez.
Benitez is resigned to losing Cavani this summer and would like to bring in a top class replacement as part of the reported £53 million deal for the Uruguayan international striker.
Despite his disappointing form for the Blues, the club still value Torres at around £30 million but Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis only rates the Spanish international at £20 million causing an impasse in a possible swap deal.
A source close to Napoli reportedly said: “Cavani will leave Napoli this summer.
“De Laurentiis now accepts that. But he will only go if a club triggers the release fee – no less. And they need to line up a top-class replacement. But Benitez and De Laurentiis are very close – and Benitez is pushing for the Torres option.”
Mourinho today said that rather than still being ‘the special one’ he is now ‘the happy one’ back to be at Chelsea but would you be happy to see this deal completed? Rate this rumour below.
