Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have seen improvements in results since Guus Hiddink took temporary charge at Stamford Bridge but, once again, they find themselves discussing reports of his predecessor over a round of drinks.
The Daily Express runs with some interesting quotes today, with former England manager Fabio Capello believing his compatriot Antonio Conte is preparing himself for the vacant managerial position in West London.
Conte, currently in charge of the Italian national team, is the favourite to become the next Chelsea manager and reports have flooded the tabloids in recent weeks. Now, speaking to Fox Sports, Capello revealed his belief that Conte is preparing for the position.
“Conte is preparing for Chelsea. He has the time to arrive and train Chelsea in the best way, as this is an important club.”
“I think the most important thing will be the team he is able to put on the field. He needs defenders and there aren’t that many around.”
“His communication with the players will also be fundamental. I myself had a difficult experience in Russia where I always had to speak through a translator.”
Our landlord believes Conte is a solid choice for the next Chelsea boss, though he feels Hiddink deserves a shot at a long-term position with the Blues.
