Roy Hodgson currently mans the England squad but his contract expires next summer and no decision on an extension will be made until after the Three Lions European Championship campaign in France- which could free-up the managerial position.
According to The Telegraph, should Hodgson leave his post then Brendan Rodgers would be on the shortlist to takeover- despite recently being sacked as Liverpool boss and failing to win anything at Anfield after spending over £250m.
The claims, which also suggest former Manchester United boss David Moyes and current Everton manager Roberto Martinez are also contenders, had led to loud debates in the Transfer Tavern as they argue whether any of these would be a good appointment.
In the eyes of our bar staff though, any appointment is still likely to lead to an exit from an international tournament at the quarter-final stages after a penalty shoot-out. Some things never change.
