The Daily Mail have some news for Liverpool fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern.
The publication claim that a former Liverpool manager could well be on his way back to the club – not as a manager, but to swoop in and take one of their star players.
As one of our punters quips, the squad and current manager Brendan Rodgers are doing very well, and look set to potentially be top of the table at Christmas should the results go their way. Quite an achievement for a team who last season failed to get European football.
Now it seems that they could well face a battle to hold onto key defender Daniel Agger, with Napoli boss Rafael Benitez looking to land the player on loan until the end of the current season. Napoli are flying high in Serie A and are challenging for the title.
The Serie A club already have Pepe Reina, but seem to also want to land 29-year-old Agger. The Danish defender has only played nine times this season after suffering a bizarre injury in the gym and then coming back too soon.
The likes of new boy Kolo Toure have been chosen ahead of the Dane who would consider a move elsewhere should the chance of first team football be on the table.
Do Liverpool now have enough defensive reinforcements to allow Agger to leave Anfield? Let us know your thoughts below.
