The name of Rafael Benitez still resonates around Anfield.
The manager who took the club to their fifth European title against all the odds and so nearly brought the first Premier League title to Merseyside is still highly regarded by Liverpool supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern.
However he could upset a few Reds fans if the latest reports from Italy are correct as talkSPORT suggest that Benitez is planning a double raid on his former club as he looks to take Martin Skrtel and Lucas Leiva to Napoli in January.
Benitez has made an impressive start to life in Serie A with his Naples-based side unbeaten in six games and he is now looking to stregthen his current ranks when the transfer window re-opens in the New Year.
Skrtel has long been on his radar and Benitez reportedly failed with a summer bid for the player he first took to Anfield but the defender has now worked his way back into Brendan Rodgers’ plans as he started for the Reds during yesterday’s 3-1 victory over Sunderland.
However a new rumour is that the former Chelsea interim manager is looking to sign Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva as he tries to add to his Napoli team. Bentiez first signed Lucas from Gremio but the midfield man initially struggled to adapt to life in England with his manager supporting him through his struggles.
The anchorman soon proved his hype as he became an integral memeber of the team at Anfield but has failed to hit the same levels following his return from a long injury setback.
This could see Liverpool moving him on in January but Reds fans sat near the bar insist that they should do everything possible to keep hold of he 26-year-old fan favourite who will play a considerable role for the Reds this term.
