It’s been a tough season for Liverpool in the Premier League but there’s still hope amongst supporters here in the pub that Champions League football will be returning to Anfield next campaign!
The Reds are in a huge battle to secure European football for next season and it’s no secret that Jurgen Klopp’s team could do with picking up maximum points from their remaining fixtures.
The Reds host Southampton tomorrow as they look to pull away from the likes of United and City in the table and there’s one former Liverpool star who would love to see Virgil van Dijk move to Anfield this summer.
Speaking in his Sky Sports column, former Anfield hero Phil Thompson speaks of his admiration for the Dutch defender but also of his worry that fierce competition from other top-six sides could put any potential move in jeopardy.
“I’d straight away say Van Dijk, who I have always rated. The way he plays the game would make him a perfect fit for a Klopp team,” he said.
“Our big issue is that the other sides in the top six will also be looking at him,” Thompson added.
Of course, Thommo isn’t the only person worried about bringing in top quality stars over the summer and there’s real thought amongst the punters here in the pub that Champions League football will be needed to attract the best.
Liverpool fans- is Thommo right? Will the competition be too much? Leave your thoughts down below!
