Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern are almost bored of hearing the name ‘Jose Mourinho’ bandied around so often right now, though have reacted badly to the notion of someone else taking over from Louis van Gaal instead.
That’s because, according to the Sun, former Red Devils defender Laurent Blanc has reportedly emerged as a shock contender for the role if the club do indeed decide to part with their current boss.
Though he only recently penned a new deal with the Parisians, the dominant French champions are thought to have made an approach for Mourinho themselves following their quarter-final exit from the Champions League.
Having managed the French national side, then PSG where he has won three consecutive league titles, the 50-year old is thought to have emerged as a top candidate.
Not only due to his success in the French capital, but because of the fact he is reportedly willing to work with Ryan Giggs as his assistant coach as he continues his managerial apprenticeship.
The self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ is understood to be wanting to draft in his own backroom staff in, a move that could see the United legend depart.
With the club believed to be eager in appointing the Welshman as a manger at some point in the future, moving for Blanc could represent a much safer gamble in the long-term.
Is Blanc really that good a manger? Could anyone worth his salt with the French league with that PSG side?
