Former Manchester United star open to Premier League switch after failed Sunderland transfer

Former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov certainly brings back some memories for the Red Devils fans lining the bar here in the Tavern and sometimes not always for the best!

The former Bulgarian international will be remembered for some fantastic moments during his time at Old Trafford and some not so great times but he was a big player for the Red Devils for a number of years and few supporters begrudge him too much here in the pub.

And some United fans might be surprised to hear that their former striker might’ve been close to a return to the Premier League, when Berbatov held talks with struggling Sunderland.

Speaking to Goals on Sunday, Berbatov said: “I want to play and to be honest I had a couple of conversations with managers, even the Sunderland one.

“But in the end nothing happened,” he added.

Nothing materialised from the discussions and the 36-year-old remains a free agent, having most recently played for Greek outfit PAOK.

Whether he’s fit enough for a return to England is yet to be seen but with Sunderland’s plight worsening, they might be regretting not making a move for Berbatov sooner.

Black Cats fans- would you have brought the free agent in as another option? Leave your thoughts in the comments below!
