Manchester United fans, buzzing in here after yesterday’s win at Southampton which saw their new young star shine again are interestingly reading reports in the Express, that claim that former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov offered himself back to the club during the summer transfer window in order to help ease their worries of their depleted strike force.
Reports suggest, the former United star was keen to return to Old Trafford but Louis van Gaal rejected the chance to sign the 34-year-old after major doubts over his fitness, despite only having two recognised strikers at the time – Van Gaal then went on to sign teenage sensation Anthony Martial.
Martial has had an electrifying start to the season in which he has scored three goals in three games for the Red Devils.
After showing such promise and ability in his opening games for United he looks likely to be the main man to lead the line for United this season, despite being just 19 years of age.
The French striker scored two composed finishes this weekend vs Southampton to help his club to a 3-2 victory over the St Marys outfit.
Many United fans in the Transfer Tavern have been talking about how they would have welcomed the return of Berbatov, after a successful spell at the club.
The United punters in here say it seems strange to be relying on a 19-year-old upfront who has no experience in the Premier League and could have seen Berbatov as a perfect partner!
