Newcastle United and Hull City fans in the Football Transfer Tavern can’t believe how Hatem Ben Arfa’s career is panning out after talkSPORT revealed that he is in talks with MLS side New York City FC.
He is currently enduring a nightmare season which has seen him become a free agent after being released by Newcastle United following an unsuccessful loan spell at the KC Stadium with Hull.
The 27-year-old was then set to join Ligue 1 side Nice but FIFA blocked the move as it broke regulations with Ben Arfa not being able to play for more than three different clubs in a single season.
But despite this string of bad news, the Frenchman is looking for a fresh start in the States as he is in talks with New York City who are owned by Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour.
This is the same club who are supposedly own Frank Lampard as well as World Cup winner David Villa whilst they are also chasing Villa’s former team-mate Xavi as his time at Barcelona reaches its conclusion.
So it seems Ben Arfa could well be in good company. It’s also worth noting that FIFA will not be able to interrupt this deal as the new MLS season begins in March, meaning he will have not have breached any rules.
