It’s been another decent campaign for Tottenham Hotspur in their final season down at White Hart Lane but the trophies are going to have to start flowing sooner rather than later.
Mauricio Pochettino has done wonders in his first couple of years at the club and despite the fact the club are now pushing higher up the table than ever before, they’re going to need to start bringing home some silverware to prove of their improvements.
And moving forward, it’s clear that the club are going to have to make some big-name signings and there’s real thought amongst the Spurs fans here in the Tavern that they let one of the biggest players in the world leave at the wrong moment.
Of course, the man in question is Gareth Bale, who is set to take to the field for Real Madrid at some point this evening as they take their place in the Champions League final.
And former Spurs midfielder Danny Murphy has recently admitted to the Evening Standard that he never expected Bale to be this good.
“When I played briefly alongside Gareth Bale at Tottenham, I could never have predicted he’d become a world star,” he sad.
“He has grown into a much better footballer than I imagined he would,” he added.
And former Fulham star Murphy, who also had a successful stint with Liverpool, admits that although he saw promise in Bale, he thought that might’ve been restricted to just playing in the Premier League.
“Yes, it was clear he had the potential to become a good player. When you saw him in full flow, you could see he had the talent to have a strong career in the Premier League.”
