Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern were furious over the summer as Louis Van Gaal let Javier Hernandez leave, declaring that their forward line was left far too weak after the Mexican’s exit.
Things have changed following Anthony Martial’s rise to fortune, whilst United currently sit top of the Premier League. When we asked the same punters about Hernandez though, they barely remember who we’re talking about.
One man hasn’t forgot what happened this summer though and that’s Hernandez himelf, with the ‘little pea’ desperate to show United he isn’t just another former striker and he intends to make it clear to Van Gaal what he’s missing.
Chicharito is using the Champions League as his stage, a tournament he is well accustomed to having featured in the 2011 final for United, scored a dramatic late winner for Real Madrid in the derby against Atletico last year and netted for his new club, Bayer Leverkusen, upon his tournament debut with the German side.
With 59 goals in 85 starts, it’s no wonder Hernandez wants to stick two fingers up at Van Gaal- and the old United fan in the corner is bellowing at us that the Dutchman was wrong to let him go.
The Daily Mail puts him in good company in his quest to reach the Champions League final, as they point out Gerard Pique, Paul Pogba, Cristiano Ronaldo, Carlos Tevez and Patrice Evra all reached the pinnacle of Europe’s elite competition after leaving Old Trafford.
That’s quite a list and the punters at the bar are starting to take notice- it’s likely Van Gaal will too.
United fans, should Hernandez have been given a chance under Louis Van Gaal’s new regime? Let us know in the comments below!
