Former Sunderland and Ipswich Town keeper dies age 32

Martin FulopThe writers here at the Transfer Tavern today give their sincere condolences to the family and friends of Marton Fulop, who today has sadly died at the age of 32.

Fulop had a tumour removed from his arm in 2013, and was given the all-clear to continue his goalkeeping career at what was his current club Ipswich Town, but today has sadly passed away. Fulop had last appeared for Ispwich in 2011.

A statement from one of his former clubs, Sunderland, read:

“It’s desperately sad when we lose a Sunderland family member but to lose one so young in such circumstances is heart-breaking,”

Ipswich Town also paid their condolences, tweeting:

“Our thoughts are with Marton’s friends and family at this immensely difficult time. He was aged just 32.”

The former Hungarian International played in goal for Sunderland, Tottenham, West Brom, Chesterfield, Coventry, Stoke City, Leicester and Manchester City. Many former teammates such as Ben Foster and Ledley King have taken to twitter to pay their respects.
