Former Sunderland manager Gustavo Poyet wasn’t majorly popular with Black Cats punters inside the Transfer Tavern when he was in charge at the Stadium of Light, but that hasn’t stopped him throwing his thoughts into the ring on who the club should hire next.
Several fans of the club are gathered around the pool table mulling over an article in the Sunderland Echo which publishes quotes of the Uruguayan backing Sam Allardyce into the vacant role.
“He knows the Premier League inside out and he knows exactly what a team needs to do to stay in the Premier League. He has done it everywhere he has been so it’s not something new. That experience of being there for so long will definitely help.”
Allardyce is out of work since leaving West Ham back in May and is said to be considering the chance to jump straight back into management after a short time away.
The landlord, who is pulling pints for a bar full of punters, has also had his say and says that whoever Sunderland opt for it will take a mammoth task to keep the club in the Premier League with such an average squad of players.
