Swansea fans in the Transfer Tavern were shocked to hear that former defender Sam Ricketts has tipped Paul Clement’s side to be relegated at the end of the season, and they’re not happy about his comments!
Ricketts, who turned out over 100 times for the Swans during a two-year stint at the Liberty Stadium has said he’ll be surprised if Swansea aren’t demoted to the Championship at the end of the current season, especially after Hull City’s surprising turnaround in form.
He told the BBC: “Up until then, since [manager] Paul Clement came in, they were fantastic.
“I went to the Hull v Swansea game thinking Swansea, who had just had a fantastic win over Burnley, just needed to come up to Hull and not lose and they would have been safe.
“But Hull won that game and from then, they have been winning and have the momentum. They have a two point advantage at the minute so I am afraid to say, with my Swansea hat on, I think Hull are favourites at the moment to stay up,” he added.
Even our barman, who is a die-hard Swans fan, has begun losing a little faith in his side, with tough games against Manchester United and Everton still to play this season, which could prove to be decisive in the race to stay up when May rolls around.
But Swans fans should certainly take heart from a much more positive second half to the season than the first, with Clement being able to build far more victories than the likes of Francesco Guidolin and Bob Bradley ever did.
Next up for the Swans is a trip to Watford, who go into the game on the back of a 4-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
