Forward quashes Liverpool transfer talk as intriguing news emerges

Liverpool supporters have been pretty downbeat in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side’s 18-match unbeaten run in all competitions come to an end courtesy of a 1-0 defeat against Swansea City on Monday night.

Jurgen Klopp’s men went into their clash with the Premier League’s bottom side having not tasted defeat since a 4-1 hammering at the hands of Tottenham back in October, and off the back of beating league leaders Manchester City in their previous outing. However, the Merseyside giants produced a lacklustre display and were deservedly beaten by Carlos Carvalhal’s side, with Alfie Mawson’s strike just before the break clinching a vital three points for the Swans, at the same putting a slight dent in Liverpool’s top four aspirations.

Thus, there have been some despondent Liverpudlians in the Tavern this week, and they are unlikely to be overly thrilled by a recent report from The Liverpool Echo, which outlines comments from reported target Luan about recent transfer talk linking him with a move to Anfield.

The 24-year-old forward currently plays his trade at Brazilian top-flight side Gremio, and has seriously impressed for the club in recent times having netted 36 goals and laid on 22 assists in 131 games, helping them to the Copa Libertadores title last year.

As such, the Brazil international has reportedly been attracting the interest of Klopp’s Liverpool, and reports earlier this week suggested that the Reds were holding talks over a possible move for the talented attacker.

However, Luan himself has quashed speculation surrounding his future, saying: ‘If I knew, I wouldn’t hide. I always said that I would leave it to Gremio and to my agent, and if they had something concrete, they should talk to me.

‘No one has come to me so there is nothing. It has to be good for me, it has to be good for Gremio.

‘I will not rush to want to leave soon, just like in the middle of last year.’

And these intriguing comments are not likely to delight our resident Liverpudlians, but having reportedly scouted the 24-year-old in recent times, it remains to be seen whether the Reds do indeed make an approach for the forward ahead of the summer window.

Landlord’s verdict: Reports earlier this week suggested that Gremio forward Luan, two-times a Brazil international, was locked in talks with Liverpool over a possible move in the summer, with Reds boss Jurgen Klopp seemingly already preparing for the future and indeed a shot at the Premier League title.

However, the forward himself has since quashed that transfer talk by suggesting that no one has made contact with current club Gremio, where he has scored 36 goals and laid on 21 assists in just 131 matches.

The 24-year-old clearly has huge potential and could well fulfil that at Anfield in the years to come, but the Reds seemingly haven’t got the ball rolling just yet over a possible move for the forward.

But having reportedly scouted him in recent times, a future deal cannot yet be ruled out.
