It’s a quiet Saturday in the Football Transfer Tavern following the closure of the transfer window on Monday and the lack of Premier League football given the international break.
However Arsenal supporters in the bar are left enthused when Sami Mokbel from Mail Online suggests that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is targeting a January raid on the Bundesliga to sign some of the hottest talent in Germany.
The French boss is reportedly tracking Borussia Dortmund duo Marco Reus and Ilkay Gundogan (pictured) and he is plotting a move for Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Lars Bender.
Dortmund’s Polish right-back Lukasz Piszczek is also on the radar as Wenger seeks a long-term replacement for Bacary Sagna, who could leave on a free transfer next summer.
Following the arrival of Mesut Ozil on Monday at the Emirates Stadium, Gunners supporters are hopeful that this will mark a turning point for the north London club who have gone eight years without a trophy.
Wenger has now reportedly asked his scouts to compile detailed reports on potential targets and the German league featured prominently with the club now monitoring Gundogan, Reus and Bender.
The Gunners already have a heathly number of Germans in their squad, boosted by the arrival of Ozil, with Per Mertesacker, Lukas Podolski and Serge Gnabry have arrived from Werder Bremen, Cologne and Stuttgart respectively in recent seasons, while Thomas Eisfeld is coming through the youth ranks.
Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp is desperate to keep hold of his key talents but Wenger wants to have a productive offer and may make offers that the Bundesliga side cannot reject.
Arsenal fans. If you could one of the three above names, who would it be? Let us know your thoughts below.
