Frank de Boer needs to ensure he retains the services of this 26-year-old

The Crystal Palace fans in the Transfer Tavern will be hoping the club can hold onto Christian Benteke, following rumours linking him away.

The rumours linking Crystal Palace striker, Christian Benteke to Everton have died down slightly in the past couple of days.

Our landlord reckons this is a good outcome for Frank de Boer’s Crystal Palace.

Benteke managed 17 goals in all competitions last season with Wilfried Zaha coming in second for Palace, with 7 goals.

Palace can’t afford to let Benteke go at this moment in time unless Koeman was to come in with a substantial offer, which is unlikely.

Yes, the Dutch manager has been spending money like it is going out of style this transfer window, but Palace really shouldn’t be letting Benteke go for anything less than £40 million given what he is worth to them.

Our landlord doesn’t reckon Koeman will pay that.

Why pay £40 million for Benteke when there are better alternatives for Everton who wouldn’t cost much more.

It wouldn’t make sense for Everton and it certainly benefits Palace, having Benteke stay.

For a side who usually end up around the mid-table mark, a 17-goal a season striker is perfect for them.

Given the fact that he only made the move to Palace from Liverpool this time last year, Benteke hasn’t had enough time to establish himself properly at the club.

Palace should tie him down to a new deal and Benteke should go on to make a name for himself as a Palace great.
