The Chelsea fans were bitterly disappointed in the Transfer Tavern last night after their side were dumped out of the Carabao Cup at the semi-final stage.
Arsenal once again proved to be Chelsea’s nemesis in a domestic cup competition as they recorded a 2-1 victory at The Emirates Stadium yesterday evening to set up a Wembley final date with Manchester City. Arsene Wenger won the battle of wits against Conte in the FA Cup Final last season, and the Frenchman once again got his tactics spot on against the Italian.
Conte opted to name a full-strength side for his side’s trip to North-London, but he was forced into a subsitution on the half-hour mark when Ross Barkley entered the fray for his Chelsea debut to replace the injured Willian.
Strangely enough, Barkley’s last appearance in the Premier League was on the same ground in Everton’s last fixture of the 2016/17 season, and all eyes were on the 24-year-old on his eagerly anticipated return.
Barkley struggled to make an impact on proceedings on his return from injury, but that was hardly surprising considering he has spent almost 8 months on the sideline through injury.
However, plenty of the Blues faithful on Twitter have not been so forgiving of the Evertonian, and he has already been subjected to a barrage of criticism from his own supporters.
Here’s what some of the Chelsea fans had to say about Barkley’s debut performance…
@ChelseaFC sell Barkley immediately

Ross Barkley how much did he cost?? Taken 3 corners not one beat 1st man truly terrible set piece play. Everton fans must be laughing #ARSCHE

Barkley was understandably rusty and not match fit last night. Showed the odd glimpse of his quality, but a debut to forget.
Think he’ll be a real asset once he’s knocked off the rust.

Anyone notice Ross Barkley’s debut tonight? No me either. As you were

Ross Barkley’s Chelsea career is probably over. Can’t take a corner, can’t pass, can’t run. Well played Everton getting money for him.

He was Arsenal’s best player

I must admit, watching Barkley slow down a counter attack, lose the ball and then jog back slowly for another team is pretty cathartic.
