This is a rumour that is likely to upset many Arsenal fans, with both English and French media reporting that Samir Nasri could be on his way to Old Trafford. The Frenchman’s contract negotiations have hardly progressed over the course of the season, alerting Manchester United to the availability of the player.
The Arsenal midfielder has been nominated for many personal accolades this season after a very impressive first half to the season. The impact of the player undoubtedly died down a bit in the second half of the season but then again so did the overall form in the Arsenal camp. After some of the goals and assists from the player this season it does not come as surprise to hear of interest from the newly crowned Premier League champions.
Wenger’s boys have now gone six years without winning a trophy and it looks as though the midfielder is having doubts over his future at the club. If the Frenchman was really committed to the cause at the Emirates then surely a contract would have been signed a while back, leaving many wondering if the player knows of serious outside interest that may be too good to pass up.
A move from Arsenal to United would be a very controversial step for the young man who is adored by the Emirates faithful but stranger things have happened in football. Fellow countryman and United hero, Patrice Evra has added fuel to the fire and once again infuriated the ‘boys’ of Arsenal.
“I am not aware of any interest [from Manchester United in Samir Nasri]. However, he should realize that there is no room for error here if he decides to join United,” Evra told L’Equipe.
“Each year it is a guarantee of a title. I have been at Manchester for five years now and I can’t remember how many trophies I have won. 13? 15?
“So, ‘Petit Prince’, if you want to become King you know where you have to go.”
The United left-back is blatantly urging his compatriot to move up north in order to be become ‘King’. Even though these words may anger many Arsenal fans, it is almost impossible to dispute the truth behind Evra’s comments.
There is still hope for Arsenal yet with another year to left to run on Nasri’s current deal but the Gunners will have to act quick if they are to keep their ‘Petit Prince.’
