Liverpool are continuing to search for a replacement for legendary centre half Jamie Carragher despite the signing of Kolo Toure but Paris Saint-Germain star Mamadou Sakho is not on Brendan Rodgers wishlist this summer according to the Liverpool Echo.
Toure will officially become a Reds player today after completing his free transfer from Manchester City but with nagging doubts about current first choice centre back Martin Skrtel, Rodgers still seems keen to reinforce further at the back.
Sakho had been linked with a possible switch to England and the 23-year-old even admitted he was flattered with rumours of interest from Anfield, telling Goal.com: “I’ll be able to talk with the new coach and see what he thinks.
“I am flattered by the interest of historic clubs like Liverpool and AC Milan. We will see what happens in the near future.”
However Liverpool have no interest in the French-based defender while interest in Swansea City captain Ashley Williams and Schalke’s Kyriakos Papadopoulos appears to have faded due to the respective parties being unable to agree on fair prices for their defensive stars.
One player who could still be arriving at Anfield is Sporting Lisbon starlet Tiago Ilori, with the club thought to be close to agreeing a deal for the Portugal Under-20 international.
If Sakho is no longer on Rodgers’ radar, who exactly will the Reds move for this summer? Let us know your thoughts below.
