James Dickenson from The Express has arrived in the Football Transfer Tavern this afternoon to break bad news to Arsenal supporters gathered around the pool table as he confirms that long-term Gunners target Clement Grenier has ignored interest from the club to sign a deal with Lyon.
The 22-year-old highly rated midfielder, who has been likened to former Arsenal player Samir Nasri, was the subject of two bids from the Emirates Stadium club last season which were both rebuffed by the French side.
Grenier has now decided that his future remains in native France after penning a contract at the Stade Gerland until 2016 which will help put a stop to speculation linking him away from the club.
The French international, who came through the youth ranks at Lyon admitted that other clubs had shown interest but he only had thoughts on signing a new deal with the Ligue 1 side.
“There was interest, but I only wanted to stay with Lyon,” said Grenier.
Is this another blow for Arsenal in this summer of disappointment? Let us know your thoughts below.
