Fresh hope for Manchester United as target rejects contract

Juan Cuadrado

Manchester United fans had a late one in the Football Transfer Tavern last night celebrating their club’s 3-1 win over arch-rivals Liverpool in the final of the International Champions Cup in Miami.

And sources at the Daily Star reckon they may have more reason to celebrate shortly, with Colombia World Cup star Juan Cuadrado said to have rejected the offer of a new contract at Fiorentina in the hope of securing a summer move to Old Trafford.

The Viola are said to have offered the winger a contract worth £30,000-a-week, but Cuadrado is looking to engineer a move to either Manchester United or Barcelona – both of whom are willing to offer more money.

Reports in Spain suggest the player and his agent are set to reject the new offer in the hope of forcing through a move to England or Spain.

Spanish newspaper Marca claimed yesterday that Barcelona had already agreed terms with Cuadrado, but reports today suggest Manchester United are set to blow them out of the water with a more lucrative contract offer.

It was also reported yesterday that new Barcelona boss Luis Enrique is looking to offload Daniel Alves in the hope of making room for Cuadrado.

Alves has just one year left to run on his contract, whilst Chelsea, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain have all been linked with a move.
