From France: Southampton could offload 24-year-old as interest gathers

Southampton fans in the Transfer Tavern will be expecting the side to do much better in the Premier League when the season gets underway and will want to see Mark Hughes make a number of changes.

The former Stoke City boss was given a permanent three-year deal following his efforts to keep the Saints in the top-flight, having looked almost certain to be playing Championship football at one stage.

Hughes is expected to be active in the transfer window and will want to strengthen his side to ensure they are not in the same position and could be ready to offload some of his players to raise funds for the additions he needs.

According to reports in France, Le10Sport are claiming that Sofiane Boufal could be about to leave St. Mary’s with interest from both Stade Rennes and Olympique de Marseille.

The Morocco international has struggled to hit the heights following his move to the south-coast a couple of season’s ago and Hughes could be ready to offload the 24-year-old.

Landlord’s Verdict

The Southampton fans in the Tavern will be disappointed that things did not work out for Boufal during his time at the St. Mary’s Stadium. The Moroccan showed glimpses of what he could offer for the Saints at times, however, it was not enough to get him a regular first-team spot.

The locals will feel that if they can sell him for a reasonable transfer fee, then they could look to use that to bring in a player that would help them improve immediately.
