From Italy: Man City agree personal terms with Serie A playmaker

The Manchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping their club will conclude a deal for Jorginho as soon as possible, and recent reports from Italy have given them fresh reason to believe a transfer looms on the imminent horizon.

Discussion regarding Fernandinho’s eventual successor has been a core topic of conversation amongst the resident Citizens propping up our bar in recent months. The merits and pitfalls of a handful of candidates have been deliberated over at length, but it seems that Pep Guardiola and the rest of City’s hierarchy have finally narrowed down the shortlist to Napoli’s Jorginho.

The Italy international played a pivotal role in Napoli’s unsuccessful bid for the Serie A title last season in holding midfield where he used his play-making ability to great effect, and his impact has clearly impressed some key figures at the Etihad Stadium.

According to a recent report from Italian media outlet Calciomercato, City have made a personal agreement with Jorginho ahead of a potential transfer which would see him sign a contract worth 5 million a year, although they have yet to agree a transfer fee with the Italian club.

Landlord’s verdict

Our landlord believes the latest report is an incredibly promising sign for the City supporters who were beginning to grow concerned that Jorginho would favour a move to Stamford Bridge amid rumours that Maurizio Sarri could eventually replace Antonio Conte at Chelsea.

Now that Fernandinho is 33-years-old, the supporters believe the acquisition of a long-term replacement will be necessary to ensure that the burden on the Brazilian’s shoulders is eased next season, and Jorginho represents an ideal candidate to undertake that task.
