Southampton fans in the Transfer Tavern will be pleased with what Mark Hughes has managed to achieve over the past week and will still be hoping for more additions to arrive this summer.
The Saints, who are desperate not to repeat last season’s poor performance in the Premier League, will want to add plenty of strength and depth to their side, something their manager has been trying to put into effect.
Hughes has already signed Stuart Armstrong and Mohamed Elyounoussi, whilst losing Dusan Tadic to Ajax this summer, however, it appears he may have had his chances of signing a forward boosted.
According to a report by Calciomercato in Italy, Andrea Petagna does not seem convinced by the offer handed to him from SPAL and is prepared to wait for other proposals, with Southampton thought to be in the running.
The Saints are determined to bring a new frontman into the club this summer as they look to find the firepower needed to keep them away from the relegation zone and the Atalanta man appears to fit their criteria.
The Italian did not really set the Serie A on fire with his goalscoring last season, having only netted just six times, however, his physical nature will suit him well in the Premier League and has seen him get a lot of attention.
The Saints will feel that they will have a chance following his decision to wait and hear other proposals and the locals will be hoping they can take full advantage of the situation.
