From Spain: Hughes prepared to make huge offer for Barcelona outcast but could face a problem

Southampton fans in the Transfer Tavern will be expecting Mark Hughes to make some additions to his squad this summer as they look to improve on last season.

The Saints survived Premier League relegation by the skin of their teeth last year and the locals will be desperate to see their side at the right end of the table come May next year.

In order for Southampton to be able to achieve that, Hughes will know he needs to add a few new faces to his side, including a striker, with reports in Spain suggesting he could be prepared to make a huge offer.

Mundo Deportivo are claiming that the Saints are prepared to pay €20million to bring Paco Alcacer from Barcelona this summer, with the La Liga giants wanting to offload the former Valencia forward.

The Spanish international has seen his time very limited at the Camp Nou although it is believed that he has no intention of leaving.

Landlord’s Verdict

Southampton’s move for a player like Alcacer is extremely ambitious, however, he should prove to be a solid signing should they make an offer for him. The 24-year-old has a proven goalscoring record when starting matches, something that has been rare for him behind Luis Suarez, however, he would be able to get regular football at the St. Mary’s Stadium and the locals in the Tavern will be hoping that could be enough to tempt him to leave Barcelona this summer.
