Frustrating for Klopp: Liverpool suffer blow ahead of key run of fixtures

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are looking forward to the climax of their season, with the next few months set to be very competitive for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

They’re set to take on Man City in the Champions League, whilst their next few Premier League fixtures could determine whether they’re in the competition next season.

Unfortunately, though, ahead of that spell, some bad news has filtered into the discussions of the fans in the Transfer Tavern.

According to ESPN, Joe Gomez is set to miss a number of important fixtures for Liverpool after suffering an injury whilst on international duty with England.

Gomez will apparently miss the two Champions League games against Man City, in addition to Premier League games against Crystal Palace, Everton and Bournemouth.

This is very frustrating for Jurgen Klopp, given that the injury has occurred away from his club. The international break is often viewed as a good time for clubs, given that it offers a break from the rigours of Premier League football, but this injury has shown the negative impact that the break can have.

Gomez has been an important player for Liverpool this season, having made 19 Premier League starts already. An impressive defensive asset, his versatility and defensive solidity have made him popular amongst the Reds in the Transfer Tavern.

As such, this news has not gone down well amongst the Liverpool fans in the pub.

Landlord’s Verdict

Joe Gomez has been a great asset for Liverpool this season. Whilst many of Klopp’s defenders have struggled, the Englishman has excelled.

He’s not the finished article, but he’d likely be a fairly regular member of the first team for the games he now looks likely to miss, and so this is far from ideal.

Perhaps this could open the door for a return to the fold for Nathaniel Clyne, though his injury status is still uncertain.
