The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are feeling pretty optimistic about the new season…
It has been a strong preseason campaign from the Reds, and with Jurgen Klopp at the helm, anything is possible.
Indeed, with a European return next season and a few new names through the doors, Liverpool could be on the verge of something great, but it appears as though their pre-season preparations have taken a bit of a hit – for a few players at least.
Jurgen Klopp has provided an injury update on the current status of his playing squad, and as per the official Liverpool website, it isn’t looking too great. Klopp has revealed that Loris Karius, Nathaniel Clyne, James Milner and Danny Ward are all out of action at present through injury.
Fortunately, none of the issues appear to be particularly concerning – with Nathaniel Clyne’s situation appearing to be the most difficult to deal with – and so the news shouldn’t affect Liverpool’s long-term plans too much.
Still, it’s a blow for Klopp given that with time running out between now and the end of the season, he will be ideally looking to pick his first team for the opening day of the 2017/18 campaign.
Next season is going to be very important for Liverpool, and they can’t afford to struggle due to injury problems. This news has brought some concern to the fans in the pub, and so that says a lot about where Liverpool are at right now.
Clearly, over the next few weeks, Liverpool need to work on getting their players fit again and they need to look at bringing in a few more bodies – as the games are going to come thick and fast over the coming months.
Still, Klopp appears optimistic about the news, and so our landlord isn’t too concerned.
